Houston-Area Attorney Sworn in as Finance Chair of the Texas Democratic Party

HOUSTON - Aug. 1, 2018 - PRLog -- Houston-area attorney Christopher G. Hollins was sworn in as Finance Chair (officially termed Vice Chair for Finance) of the Texas Democratic Party in Fort Worth at the 2018 Texas Democratic Convention.

In his new role, Hollins—a native Houstonian who earned Juris Doctor and Master of Business Administration degrees from Yale Law School and Harvard Business School, respectively—is on a mission to elect Democrats across Texas to political office.

A fifth-generation Texan, Hollins calls it an honor to work with some of the most talented minds across the state to build and execute a strategy to "turn Texas blue."  Said Hollins, "Flipping Texas is critical to the progress of our country—because of how large our voting base is compared to other states, we can decide who the next U.S. President will be and who will own majorities in the U.S. House and Senate."

"If every Texan cast their vote, Texas would already be blue today," said Hollins, who is on a quest to make that a reality. "We will continue to register eligible voters and make sure they know how important their voice is. Republicans are clearly doing the opposite—trying to suppress the vote and pass discriminatory voter ID laws that turn Texans away from the polls."

While only 32 years old, Hollins already has a deep resume both in- and outside of the political arena. He briefly worked in the White House in the first year of the Obama administration and has managed campaigns in Houston, Washington DC, and DeSoto (TX).

A Phi Beta graduate from Morehouse College, Hollins enjoyed a distinguished career in the corporate arena before transitioning to private practice as an attorney. He worked as a Senior Engagement Manager at global consultancy McKinsey & Company, where he applied analytics and organizational best practices to transform public safety, defense, and security agencies. He also worked as a Summer Associate with Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz and the investment bank Goldman Sachs.

Texas—home to nearly 30 million people—has not elected a Democrat to statewide office since 1994. Hollins acknowledges that Democrats face an uphill battle, but he seems to be undaunted in his undertaking.  "For the next four years, my role is to make sure that we're investing in strategic and sustained outreach to voters across the Lone Star State. It's a tall task, but I couldn't be more excited about it, and I'm ready to get to work," said Hollins.

A strong proponent of family, Hollins credits his father George Hollins, Jr., a retired HPD sergeant, and mother Christie Hollins, a retired corporate secretary and former foster parent, with instilling the love of family and community outreach that inspired him on the path to political service. He is married to Houston attorney Morgan Upshaw Hollins.  The couple has one child, daughter Vivian.
