Animated adaption of Raymond Carver's "Cathedral" to be shown in Ottawa this fall
Hyper Asian studio's latest animation "Cathedral" will be premiering at Ottawa International Animation Festival this September.
Cathedral was produced by Hyper Asians Studio and it was made under Emily Carr University's third-year animation program. Directed, written and animated by Hong Kong animator Ivan Li, the experimental animated short was inspired by Raymond Carver's 1983 acclaimed short story. The animation repurposed clips extracted from audiobook "Timeless Classics", chopping up dialogues read by Tony Award-winning actor James Naughton and synchronizes it to photorealistic computer-generated imagery. It opens up a new perspective on the original story by visualizing the narrative in an immersive and surreal spectacle.
Founded in 1975. Ottawa International Animation Festival (OIAF) is the largest animation event in North America. Every year, the festival showcases more than 120 animated works around the globe, offering a unique, diverse and provocative experience to animation enthusiasts.
