The company says that polished concrete flooring is the surface of choice in warehouse and industrial facilities because it is extremely hard wearing, versatile, low cost, and abrasion resistant.
Polishing existing concrete flooring can give it a completely new lease of life. Plain concrete floors can suffer from damage in all sorts of different ways such as rain damage, surface stress, delamination, impact, curled cold joints, and more. By removing a small amount of the existing damaged surface, carrying out any repairs that are necessary, such as filling cracks or other damage, and then polishing the floor, it can last for at least a further 50 years and possibly a lot longer.
There are no hazardous or toxic chemicals used in the cleaning and polishing process which means that the floor can be put into use the moment the work is finished, even in areas where a clean room environment is essential, such as food preparation. In many cases, the company has carried out polishing work while the site remains in full production.
There is a considerable decrease in floor maintenance when a polished concrete surface is created. Plain concrete is porous and will absorb spills of oil, paint, or other stains leaving marks which in many cases cannot be removed. When the concrete is polished it makes for a densely packed tight surface which cannot absorb spills – all they need is mopping up. As for regular maintenance a damp mop will take care of it, which eliminates the need for any other form of cleaning, waxing, or polishing, so money is saved both on the labour involved and the materials which do not need to be purchased.
Furthermore, there is a reduction of tyre marks from fork lift trucks and industrial cherry pickers. On an ordinary concrete floor there is a friction between the tyre and the surface which not only leaves tyre marks which are very difficult to clean, but also increases wear on the tyres resulting in a limited life span. When the surface is polished there are no resins on the surface that can be burnt from friction by the tyre.
Polished concrete is also naturally anti-slip. Whether the floor is wet or dry, a polished concrete surface meets all current health and safety standards for slip resistance which is essential for areas of high foot traffic.
A polished concrete floor has a very long life expectancy compared with other types of flooring which may only last for ten or twenty years. Polished concrete, by comparison, will last for in excess of sixty years.
