United Premier Soccer League Announces FC Waco as Central Conference Expansion Team
Central Texas-Based Pro Development Club Joins UPSL for the 2018 Fall Season
By: United Premier Soccer League
Based in Central Texas, FC Waco is a registered non-profit and will begin UPSL Pro Premier play in the Central Conference. The club currently is in negotiation with Texas' Midway Unified School District, and will host its home matches at Juan Lopez Soccer Complex (6100 Airport Road, Waco, TX 76710) in compliance with UPSL's Minimum Standards.
United Premier Soccer League Central Conference Manager Matt Kahla said, "The Texas market is definitely opening up to the UPSL, and we welcome FC Waco to the Central Conference. Jarrod Barton has a brilliant plan to bring Pro Development soccer to Waco and keep it there for the long term. We can't wait to see them on the field, and wish the well as they prepare to kick off this Fall."
Jarrod Barton is President and General Manager of FC Waco. Born and raised in Waco, Barton, played varsity soccer at Waco (Tex.)'s Midway High School until a serious knee injury derailed his senior season. He currently is majoring in Business Administration and Marketing as a sophomore at Waco (Tex.)'s McLennan Community College.
FC Waco President and General Manager Jarrod Barton said, "The overall structure of the UPSL attracted us to the league. Every team is allowed to run completely independently yet the league has legitimate Minimum Standard guidelines which include utilizing Mycujoo for live streaming and the SportzStudio website, which are platforms that allow clubs to create income streams and run more professionally. These requirements hold every team in the league to a more professional standard, and I believe that when every team is doing well then we do well. We're excited to join the UPSL and we look forward to the 2018 Fall Season."
Long-time local club coaches Javier Ponce and Hector Maldonado have agreed to serve as Head Coach and Assistant Coach, respectively. The pair has worked together for more than 15 years, and both hold a USSF 'C' Coaching License.
The club has trimmed its roster to 24 names following spring-time tryouts and is teeming with talent from the UPSL including players formerly with Texas Spurs, FC Knights and Round Rock SC, among others.
The club soon will announce its upcoming game schedule.
