Philippine premier singer-songwriter Ogie Alcasid marks a 1st with Songwriter Meets the Wildflower
ABS-CBN's "Your Face Sounds Familiar" and "It's Showtime" judge promises to create stirring, new memories in his first ABS-CBN event in Japan with Dance Empress Maja Salvador at Aichi-ken
If Philippine music industry icon Ogie Alcasid were to describe his return to Japan, one of his biggest romantic ballads "Kailangan Kita"
(I Need You), would perhaps, best describe his comeback to the Land of the Rising Sun as it speaks of longing and reassurance. On July 15, Alcasid will sing more of these songs on yearning, and of what-could-have-
While Alcasid has been to Japan countless times with his family, the premier songwriter and singer will create new memoirs this time performing on stage.
Alcasid, judge of ABS-CBN top-raters "Your Face Sounds Familiar" and "It's Showtime" said: "I am honored to perform for TFC as part of the ABS-CBN family in Japan and excited too for the future when I will bring my music to all parts of the world where TFC is watched."
Making the July 15 event more of one for the books is his first-time collaboration with the Philippines' Dance Empress Maja Salvador. The award-winning songwriter and singer vows: "Expect an exciting and nostalgic combination of music and dance from Maja and myself."
For Alcasid, it will feel like home performing for both Filipinos and nationals. He shares that most Filipinos and Japanese are quite the same in their love for their fellowmen. He recounts one story where a man willingly helped him despite the rain. "I was once lost in Tokyo and this man that I asked directions from, walked with me for several blocks in the rain so I can get to my destination,"
Aside from the people, Alcasid looks forward to a lot more of Japan beyond what he has already seen in his visits. The artist, also the former president of the group of Filipino artists Organisasyon ng mga Pilipinong Mang-aawit (OPM) stresses: "Japan is my most favorite Asian country to visit. I love the culture, the food, the sights and its people." Alcasid particularly likes Tokyo in the Sakura or season of cherry blossoms where the country is surrounded by the picturesque pink flowers.
Filipinos in Japan are invited to join Alcasid as he creates new memories in Japan on July 15, with the multi-awarded Salvador, and comedian-host Eric Nicolas. Meantime, hosting the pre-show is Tawag ng Tanghalan sa "It's Showtime" grand finalist Makoto Inoue.
