BEAVERTON, Ore. - July 4, 2018 - PRLog -- It's a startling statistic. According to Oregon's Health Authority, the state has one of the highest rates of prescription opioid misuse in the nation. An average of three Oregonians die every week from prescription opioid overdose. Dr. Suresh Chand, MD and his friendly staff at Cornell Pain Clinic in Beaverton, OR hope to play a role in helping to curb the opioid crisis plaguing the state.

"Sadly, it's a big problem," stated Dr. Chand. "Collaborative integrated primary care, mental health treatments, and the involvement of pain medicine specialists will be very helpful in slowing down the opioid crisis."

While the Oregon Medical Association recently reported that opioid prescriptions have dropped by 25 percent, Dr. Chand and his staff believe much more work still needs to be done to further curb the problem. That's why his clinic is dedicated to helping those who suffer from chronic pain, while delivering the highest quality of care and the most effective outpatient pain management services.

"I'm really excited to offer my services to patients in Beaverton and the surrounding area," stated Dr. Chand. "Currently, I'm the only doctor in Oregon and neighboring Washington who is dual board certified in Pain Medicine and Psychiatry. The reality is mental health issues and chronic pain/addiction issues tend to overlap in patients 80 percent of the time. My dual training helps me to use anesthesia based pain management, de-addiction and mental health treatment through my Psychiatry and Neurology training at the same time—which is unique and a rare expertise."

Cornell Pain Clinic focuses on the creation of a customized and multi-disciplinary treatment plan, enabling patients to restore function and improve their overall quality of life. The clinic began welcoming patients in early June, however, staff will officially celebrate their one-month anniversary with a grand opening on July 12th.

"When patients see us, we tailor treatments to specifically fit their needs. We know that one treatment option doesn't fit all," stated Dr. Chand. "When patients see us, our goal is to help them go back to leading a normal life—minus the pain."

Dr. Chand's clinic offers interventional pain management which is a minimally invasive approach for pain control. It deploys state-of-the-art treatment strategies to diminish discomfort and restore quality of life. It's used both as a diagnostic and treatment tool.  Dr. Chand's goal is to interrupt the transmission of pain signals to decrease the level of discomfort experienced without the need for invasive surgery or the reliance on potent prescription medications.

As a board-certified physician in both Pain Medicine and Psychiatry, Dr. Chand's priorities are to relieve symptoms and encourage emotional health.  He is a member of the Spinal Intervention Society, the North American Neuromodulation Society and the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians.  Dr. Chand is also serving as a physician in the U.S. Army Reserve Medical Corps.

Cornell Pain Clinic is welcoming new patient appointments with a referral from a primary care physician.  The clinic is located at 15455 NW Greenbrier Parkway, Suite 130 Beaverton, OR 97006.  Clinic hours are 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM; Monday through Friday.  Appointments may be made by calling 503-376-9200.
