Families Belong Together KC Rally

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - June 29, 2018 - PRLog -- Kansas Citians from across the metro are set to participate in a Families Belong Together - KC rally supporting Immigration Reform and Customs and Border Protection practices which keep asylum-seeking children and parents together. The rally is a satellite event of MoveOn's national Families Belong Together campaign and will begin at 12 PM CST on Saturday, June 30, 2018, at Penn Valley Park across from the National World War I Museum and Liberty Memorial in downtown Kansas City. The event will parallel similar, coinciding events on Washington and everywhere from Anchorage, Alaska, to San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Community leaders from across the metro will gather to give testimony and stand together with immigrants and asylum-seeking families. The rally will feature display tables of local nonprofits, nonpartisan political advocacy groups, and other organizations spread throughout the park to increase awareness of immigration reform and encourage civic engagement regarding the President's recent executive order on June 20 to end the practice of separating parents and children.

Event organizers maintain that "the [order] is not a solution to the crisis created by his administration" and that it "keeps children imprisoned indefinitely and does not reunite thousands of separated families." Moreover, organizers assert that the executive order reflects the Trump administration's increased willingness to respond to mounting public pressure. They encourage Kansans, Missourians, and citizens across the country to increase pressure for humane immigration policy and to demand families belong together.
