Popular Kansas City Hotel Finishes Major RenovationWestport's uniquely themed 816 Hotel completes their 'Redial'
By: 816 Hotel The most recent renovation of the 1985 built property included new guest bathrooms with walk-in showers, barn doors, and updated guestrooms with new room carpet, paint, lighting and wireless in-room thermostats. In addition to the guest room improvements, a new light and painting scheme has brightened the building's exterior, brand-new lobby bathrooms were added, and all the public area lighting was updated with LED bulbs. "The 816 Hotel bucked the trend when the owners dropped the Holiday Inn Express franchise," said Doug Gamble, GLI Partner. "Being independent of a flag was the best way to give the hotel personality and travelers a taste of Kansas City via our 24 themed rooms." The hotel's locally- themed rooms are sponsored and designed by various KC institutions, such as the KC Zoo, the KC Barbeque Society, the National War World One Museum, Negro League Baseball Museum and of course a KC Mob room. "Our themed rooms tell the story of KC, and we are proud to be born and raised here just like these KC icons," said Gamble. The 816 has been named Best Hotel in Kansas City by The Pitch magazine and has twice received the Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor. The 816 Hotel was the second acquisition for GLI Hospitality. GLI is building a regional collection of unique independent hotels using area codes as their branding.
