Follow on Google News | Rail Crossing Challenge: Top Railroad Industry Expert, Dr. Allan Zarembski Joins Design ChallengeIndustry expert joins the Crossing Design Challenge in search of technologies to bring railroad safety up to date.
By: TM/DAE Other judges include technologists, investors and winners from the previous contest. The Challenge is a response to the increased interest in Railroad Crossing safety and the concern that crossings have virtually no 21st Century technology – sensors, communications, advanced lighting and even up-to date signage that reflects today's motorists and their increased density at these crossings. This challenge is open to all comers. Highway engineers, human factors and signage designers are welcome. College students - especially in the engineering schools are also invited to participate. All finalists will be invited to a public presentation in August that will open to the media. About the Railroad Crossing Design Challenge The first version of this contest, The Teen Tech Challenge, which asked high school students to devise a high tech crossing in a day, is thought to have inspired the MTA's 2017 Genius Challenge with a $3 million prize. Submissions made at http://mtachallenge.com In honor of the loss of their beloved Ellen Schaeffer Brody, the Brody family, in conjunction with the Digital Arts Experience of Scarsdale has set up this contest for the best New Railroad Crossing Design. With a cash prize of $500 and over $1,000 worth of sponsor awards to the winners, this contest is open to all – with a special interest in highway engineers. All submissions will be reviewed by a panel of engineers including Dr. Zarembski, technologists, winners from our previous Teen Challenge and members of Westchester Angels. Finalists will be invited to present in person or by videoconference at the Digital Arts Experience in Scarsdale, NY.
