By: Addiction Now Heartview Foundation has been a longtime prescience in the North Dakota region but have not been able to keep up the pace with the growing opioid epidemic. Heartview has announced that their upcoming substance abuse treatment center will supplant 16 more beds as well as 15 more efficiency apartments at the site of a former men's shelter. Heartview gives such features as evaluation, treatment, education and a certified opioid treatment program. The opioid treatment program offers medication-assisted treatment (MAT) that is entirely structured into a holistic treatment program. Heartview has two addiction treatment centers in North Dakota, including Bismarck. There are nine drug and alcohol abuse treatment centers in Bismarck, according to the 2017 National Directory of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Treatment Facilities. In 2016, 77 people died from drug-related overdoses in North Dakota, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The North Dakota Behavioral Health System published a report that revealed that alcohol was a big issue in the state in 2016 as 34 percent of adults indicated binge drinking in the past month, above the average of 27 percent nationally.
