PILANI, India - June 14, 2018 - PRLog -- There is a general lack of interest in donating blood among today's youth, who traditionally comprise the bulk of blood donors, due to busy and stressful lifestyle. There is no incentive to donors to donate blood except as a social cause, so many of them think it is not worth their time. The shortage of blood and the fact that many people still do not choose to donate can be attributed to a lack of awareness about its benefits, especially for the donor. Educating people on these things can help encourage more people to come forward to donate blood on a regular basis.

On 14 June 2018, countries worldwide celebrated World Blood Donor Day – WBDD with events to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank voluntary unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood. June 14 happens to be the birthday of Karl Landsteiner, the Nobel Prize winner who discovered the ABO blood group system. To reinforce the urgent need for more people all over the world to become life-savers by volunteering to donate blood regularly, the theme chosen for WBDD 2018 is "Be there for someone else. Give blood. Share life."
