By: JMA Pilani On 14 June 2018, countries worldwide celebrated World Blood Donor Day – WBDD with events to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank voluntary unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood. June 14 happens to be the birthday of Karl Landsteiner, the Nobel Prize winner who discovered the ABO blood group system. To reinforce the urgent need for more people all over the world to become life-savers by volunteering to donate blood regularly, the theme chosen for WBDD 2018 is "Be there for someone else. Give blood. Share life." Smt. Jamuna Mishra Academy (JMA) established in the year 2004 is presently one of the most sought after schools at Pilani considered as Oasis in the desert state of Rajasthan well known in India today for top ranking institutions like BITS Pilani University as well as CSIR Laboratory CEERI, L.N. On 14 Jun 2018, a team of staff from JMA Pilani which included Mr Gautam Sain, Shri Murarilal Sharma, Mr Arun Sharma and Mr Vikash went on a mission to Birla Sarvajanik Hospital to donate blood. First time donor Shri Himmat Singh said that he wanted to be a soldier and give blood for the nation but even though he could not join the army, he is happy to donate blood to save lives. 28 years old, Mr Vikesh who has reached a quarter century times blood donation said that Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar is his idol and Vikesh plans to do a century of blood donations in the years to come. JMA Principal Mrs Booma Natarajan congratulated and felicitated the donors and requested them to spread the need for blood donation among al students of the school.
