Nana Roxie's Revenge To Screen At 305 Music + Film Conference
In 1984, "Roxanne's Revenge" was a brilliant response record to UTFO's hit single, "Roxanne Roxanne, which created a firestorm of answer track records. Up to 100 released recordings are rumored to exist. The short film, 'Nana Roxie's Revenge' is centered around a local DJ, who uses an unlikely muse to help break into the burgeoning hip-hop scene. The film takes an interesting and intense look behind the scenes of a follow-up track featuring Nana Roxie's Revenge.
"I became inspired after watching the Netflix movie Roxanne Roxanne. I began researching and I discovered an underworld of response records to Roxanne Shanté and DJ Marley Marl. In the 80's, people were trying to gain traction to the dream of hip-hop and stardom for themselves. I knew there had to be a story buried somewhere, and then came the birth of Nana Roxie's Revenge," said Huntley.
