ACEC/MA announces CDR Maguire, Inc. as a 2018 winner of Bronze Engineering Excellence Award
CDR Maguire was chosen by Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) to lead the design and construction of the replacement of the SR 0136-G10 bridge over Little Chartiers Creek as industry leaders in the use of Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) methods to streamline the bridge replacement. By using ABC methods, a prolonged 6 to 9-month detour was avoided. The high-volume road was closed on September 7, 2016 and then re-opened to traffic on September 30, 2016, just 24 days later. "I am proud of our bridge division and honored by this award. We strive to pioneer and innovate accelerated design and construction technologies, always with an emphasis on safety and efficiency to deliver solutions that move people, "said CDR Maguire, Senior Vice President, Matt Amorello.
The SR 0136-G10 Bridge Replacement Project replaced a 70-year-old, 210-foot-long, 4-span bridge with a new 2-span, 206-foot-long bridge. Replacing the bridge presented several design challenges including constructability, longitudinal and transverse UHPC closure pours, negative moment reinforcing, deflections during precasting, and crane sizing. Using precast concrete elements, and Prefabricated Bridge Units (PBUs), the typical 6 to 9-month detour duration was reduced to just 24 days.
"The awards honor this year's most outstanding engineering accomplishments in Massachusetts,"
