Goodwill helps those living paycheck to paycheck
Finance and Food Budget Class Offered at Cape Coral Caring Center
Thanks to the Cape Coral Caring Center, her Family and Food Budget Class now has a permanent address: 4645 SE 15th Avenue. Classes are scheduled 1-2 p.m. Mondays at the Caring Center, with the next series beginning Monday, June 18 and running for 10 weeks.
"We talk about a lot of things that people may not be familiar with, such as consumer's credit rights and how to obtain a free credit report," said Mayrent, a Job-Link Coordinator for Goodwill Industries of Southwest Florida.
In addition, she teaches life skills for saving money. For example, attendees of the free program learn how to write a meal plan based on what's on sale in weekly grocer advertisements. She gives them recipes for inexpensive ingredients to mix as household cleaning supplies.
"Besides saving money, the cleaners are non-toxic for children and animals," she added.
The Caring Center is able to provide the space through a Cape Coral Community Foundation grant partnership.
"We are excited to be bringing this program to the Cape Coral Community. We know learning how to save and handle money will be such a blessing to many people," Julie Ferguson, Cape Coral Caring Center's Executive Director said.
