VNSW Foundation Appoints Executive Director
As Executive Director of the VNSW Foundation, Schwartz-Leeper will lead efforts to structure and expand resource development and to collaborate with other community and government resources in order to support the home healthcare and community health services provided by Visiting Nurse Services in Westchester (VNSW). VNSW is the largest independent, nonprofit Medicare-certified home healthcare agency in Westchester, also serving residents of the Bronx, Dutchess, Putnam and Rockland Counties.
According to Ansehl, "As our Foundation works toward ensuring VNSW's long-term sustainability and growth, we are extremely fortunate to have someone of Julia's caliber and record of achievements to propel us forward in our fundraising and relationship-
Schwartz-Leeper served for the past twelve years as Executive Director of Riverdale Senior Services, where she transformed the agency into a successful, multi-faceted service center for aging adults by creating innovative programs and securing major funding from diverse public and private sources. She previously served as Interim Executive Director at the Carver Center in Port Chester, transitioning the agency through gaps in leadership; and as Director of Community Affairs at New York United Hospital Medical Center, as well as other leadership positions in healthcare.
With her extensive experience building resources for organizations serving elderly populations, Schwartz-Leeper is eager to apply her organizational and fundraising skills at VNSW where more than 80 percent of its patients are 65 or older. "Helping older adults remain independent and able to thrive in their homes is a mission that I hold near and dear to my heart," Schwartz-Leeper said. "I am grateful for this extraordinary opportunity to work with the VNSW Foundation Board to ensure that our community can continue to rely on our high quality, compassionate care."
Schwartz-Leeper is a Licensed Social Worker with a Masters in Social Work from Columbia University and a BA in Psychology from the University of Colorado. She served as Chair of the ACTION Committee of LiveOn New York, a statewide advocacy group for older New Yorkers; as Board Secretary for Wainwright House, a holistic wellness center; and is a Certified Yoga Instructor.
