Follow on Google News | Addiction Treatment Center to Open in FallA new addiction treatment center will be built this fall with the help of a grant.
The facility, named the St. Joseph Center of Hope, will be located on a renovated site of the ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital. Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan and other local organizations partnered together to develop the facility. Funding was provided from a $120,000 grant and monies from the sale of the former St. Joseph Catholic Church building. Assistant director of behavioral health for Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan Wendy Klinski said that the partnership should have a positive effect on the local community. The center is planned to stay open 24/7 to connect with substance use disorders to recovery resources. The local community welcomed the news of the center at a roundtable meeting in April. The building of the center is one of many community efforts to curb the opioid epidemic in the county. Other efforts include local law enforecement partnering with the Angel Program and the inclusion of drug prevention and education programs in local schools. The Center for Michigan published a report that in 2016 there were 55 countywide drug-related poisoning deaths. One contributing factor to opioid abuse is the recent trend of physicians over-prescribing opioid pain medication. Klinksi stated that the St. Joseph Center of Hope should provide hope to patients and their families. https://www.drugaddictionnow.com/ End
