Addiction Treatment Clinic Assists Local Community
An addiction treatment clinic offers methadone services and counseling for patients with substance use disorders.
Kelso Treatment Solutions, which opened in February, is the first methadone clinic in Cowlitz County. It also offers outpatient opioid addiction services, such as medication-assisted treatment and therapy sessions.
During its two years of planning and obtaining of permits, the clinic was met with some backlash from the local community. Many people were concerned that its location downtown would create a problem for nearby businesses.
Since the clinic opened, however, Kelso officials have not received any negative feedback from local residents.
Kelso Police Captain Darr Kirk stated that no registered complaints about the facility have reached his desk. He was also assured that Kelso personnel would follow safe health protocols.
In addition Kelso City Manager Steve Taylor said that concerns about people loitering outside the clinic have since then been found to be a non-issue.
The clinic is open from 5-11 a.m. Monday thru Friday and 6-9 a.m. on Saturdays as a means to not interfere with nearby businesses and also allow patients to productively use their day.
Kelso Treatment Solutions currently serves around 175 patients. After the intake process, patients must attend four hours of mental health counseling a month and subject to 10 drug tests per year.
Kelso staff is attempting to transfer back 140 clients who were referred to a Vancouver clinic while it was being built.
