South Philly Based YouTube Channel Spotlights Local Producers

Philadelphia is more densely populated with chill-hop producers than any other city in the world

PHILADELPHIA - May 29, 2018 - PRLog -- On a cold Tuesday in January a small group of low-key, yet influential, producers & artists gathered in an South Philly apartment to experiment with a idea long conceptualized by creator, Eric Boss. The goal? Shed light on the Philadelphia beat scene. The physical manifestation? Producers playing beats from a couch. Sounds pretty basic until you factor in that "The Parlor" is being recorded & streamed. The audience in the room & online were small but the vibes were not. The atmosphere was very chill, the music made it easy to relax and the producers that played beats were far from amature. It was a stoner's sanctuary.

The music ranged from dusty lo-fi hip-hop loops being played direct from a Roland SP-404 to clean R&B/Soul tracks with live bass guitar. There were jazz-hop tracks, there were trip-hop song & there was chill ambient trap music. Everything that one needs musically to chill.

This is what Philadelphia is known for, Soul Music. It always has been. We had our own era of Motown, twice! The Jazz music scene in Philadelphia hails only to that of New Orleans. We breed musicians. Check the band line-up for your favorite R&B singer. You're more than likely to find someone from Philly in their band.

With the rapid growth in lo-fi hip-hop, chillhop, jazz-hop & other sub genres of chill hip-hop, it's only right that producers & beat makers from Philly be given a platform to display their talents. Philadelphia is more densely populated with boom bap producers than any other city in the world. The talent pool here is insane.

The added dimension of watching the producers play their beats live is something that other YouTube based chill hip-hop radio stations do not offer. While still offering music to work to, study to, chill & smoke to, The Parlor takes the experience to a new level if/when you are ready. The chillhop radio station quickly becomes a full on web series when you add the dynamic of the interviews. You get to learn a little bit about the artists, producers & beat makers while also getting some insight into the production process. Eric plans to dive into tutorials & beat making videos as The Parlor grows.
