NEW YORK - May 24, 2018 - PRLog -- It is not everyday that an organization can celebrate 60 years, but Operation Crossroads Africa (OCA) will be hosting a grand celebration June 16, 2018 in Harlem, NY. The celebration will be held at the Church of the Master, located at 81 Morningside Avenue New York, NY from 10 AM-6 PM. The celebration will include a program of remembrance and affirmation and an African Feast. In addition, Dr. James A Forbes will serve as the Keynote Speaker. Forbes has traveled with Operation Crossroads Africa to Togo '60 and has also worked with Dr. Robinson at the Church of the Master as an intern and is a long-term supporter of Operation Crossroads Africa. In addition, he is the former pastor of Riverside Church in New York City.

OCA was founded in 1958 by Dr. James H. Robinson, as he had a vision of building friendships with North America and Africa. The programs of Operation Crossroads Africa are designed to promote understanding of Africa and the African Diaspora based on the belief that one can truly enter another culture only by living and working in it. Called the "Progenitor of the Peace Corps" by President John F. Kennedy, Operation Crossroads Africa has sent over 12,000 persons in the last 58 summers to more than 40 African countries, 12 Caribbean countries, and Brazil in pursuit of its goals. In addition, some of the notable Alumni from Operation Crossroads Africa include Eleanor Holmes Norton, Marion Wright Edelman, Robert D. Hormats, Ambassador James A. Joseph and many more.

"In creating Operation Crossroads Africa, Dr. Robinson wanted to bring people together for mutual enlightenment.  He believed that while doing some good that people could also become better at being human beings. Over the last sixty years, Operation Crossroads Africa has never wavered in its commitment to diversity and inclusiveness." states Willis Logan, Program Coordinator of OCA.

The OCA organization and Board of Directors humbled and grateful that they have not only continued to thrive for 60 years, but they also survived. Throughout the 60 years of existing there have been many world changes, but OCA has continued to stay dedicated to its mission.
