JK Design 'Gives Back' to Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity

HILLSBOROUGH, N.J. - May 22, 2018 - PRLog -- A team from JK Design, a creative and advertising agency with offices in Hillsborough and NYC, spent April 20 helping to build a house in Franklin Township, NJ, with Raritan Valley Habitat for Humanity (RVHFH).

Eleven JK employees installed drywall in the future residence of Tania-Sue Thomas and her four children. Like all Habitat for Humanity homeowners, the family is actively participating in the building of their house.

"We started JK Gives Back in 2015 as a way to help our staff contribute to the community or a cause of their choice,"  said Barbara Kaulius, chief human resources officer at JK Design.

The program grants each employee one day off per year to volunteer for a charitable organization or community effort.

"Our hope is that we will encourage more of our employees to do volunteer work—and after experiencing what was accomplished during that day, they might continue to volunteer for the organization on their own time," Kaulius noted.

RVHVH construction director David Polomski oversaw the group's day of house-building, the third since the JK Gives Back program began.

"Our relationship with JK has been a good one," Polomski said. "Ninety percent of each of our homes is built by volunteers. Without businesses like JK Design, who help us financially and also give us the workforce at the job site, we wouldn't be able to do this."

The day also made an impact on the JK team.

"I enjoy volunteering with Habitat for Humanity because there's a tangible result of our help," said John Geoghegan, IT specialist. "I give my time, and a bit of sweat, and the end result is that a family gets a good home."

Associate creative director Christopher Holewski agreed.

"It's fun to spend a day doing something completely different and seeing fellow employees trying out different skills," he said. "But more importantly, it's so rewarding knowing that we're playing a small part in giving a family in need a beautiful new home that will help give them a whole new life."
