By: Pade For Osun State Governor Julius Olapade Okunola is Pastor, Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Victory House, Dallas Metro, Texas. He hails from the Ogunsua Ruling House in Modakeke, Osun State. He attended Sijuwade Nursery and Primary School, Ile-Ife, and Osogbo Grammar School, Osogbo. He graduated from the University of Maiduguri, Nigeria with a bachelor's degree in Sociology and Anthropology in 1989. He is President of Onward Shipping and Clearing Services, Dallas, Texas; Rapha Agro-Allied Industries and Rapha Foods, Osogbo, Nigeria. Pastor Pade is a founding member of the social-philanthropic group – Osun Development Forum. He is a member of the Accord Party of Nigeria. Pastor Pade believes that Osun State is blessed with enough resources to transform our community into a prosperous one if only the people can re-focus their energies powered by a similar positive mindset that has worked for other cities. Okunola's friends are organizing a fund-raising event to support their invitation for him to run for the office of the Governor of Osun State of Nigeria. The fund-raising party starts in Dallas, Texas on Sunday, May 27, 2018, at Sheraton Hotels, Arlington, Texas from 7 PM from where the train moves on to Nigeria. They have already set up other avenues for grassroots support for the campaign. The #padeforosungovernor campaign targets youths from all walks of life as well matured minds to revise and reverse the unhealthy trend pervading the economy of Osun State. Okunola says that the cycle of poverty begins with the emasculation of the mind of man. Quoting from Bernard Shaw, Okunola posits that "Those who cannot change their minds cannot change anything." Therefore, the starting conversation is this; the change that we seek for our state's progress must begin with individual our minds. We must convince ourselves that the leader able to bring real reform to our state does not necessarily have to come from the big political parties. Their best efforts in governance in nearly two decades brought us to the current catastrophe. Everyone must also recognize that the wisdom and innovation to transform the fortune of our state does not necessarily have to rest with a cabal; those people who always want us to believe that Osun State is a family business meant for them. We must convince ourselves that ordinary people like you, and I working together in unity, and committed to the upliftment of our people can defeat the most powerful political machine whose interest is to perpetuate our enslavement, and utterly impoverish our unborn children through unforgivable borrowing. For example, if a school teacher is not paid his salaries month in month out without any hope of when this punishment will end. As a parent, he must devise other means to provide food for his/her family. That cuts off any chance of preparing the next day's class lessons. The translation is the production of half-baked graduates who cannot compete in any industry. The horrible performance statistics from the educational sector in Osun State is a glaring indication that our foundation needs restructuring. "And we better start now," says Okunola "because such results are not limited to the educational sector, every industry mirrors them, including healthcare, agriculture, tourism to mention a few." He cites the examples of states like Singapore, Israel, and Brunei as comparable populations that have transformed their fortunes in recent past. Closer to home he mentions local and proven innovations in Lagos and Rivers to convince everyone that a determined people led with people of proven integrity can transform their fortunes. This conviction encourages him to accept the call to lead this revolution in the Osun State of Nigeria. He calls on everyone to actively refuse to mortgage their prosperity and the future of their children by coming out in support of the #padeforosungovernor campaign. We need volunteers in various departments and local governments.
