SCHAUMBURG, Ill. - May 18, 2018 - PRLog -- On March 16th, The Backyard EXPERIENCE hosted its 3rd and biggest yet Visual Candy Night (VCN).  With over 160 people in attendance, 18 different Artists, 5 sponsors and 12 volunteers, it was a huge success. VCN is a unique pop-up gallery experience where artists from all over the US are showcased. This suburban event offers a city gallery night feel, is free to attend and includes light food, drinks, enough candy to impress Willy Wonka and an opportunity for guests to leave with a great piece of original art.

VCN volume 3 included a special themed piece of art for the Super Hero wall from each artist's interpretation. Art sales, raffle prizes donated by Blick Art Materials-Schaumburg, and the silent auction all helped raise funds for the Backyard Experience nonprofit.

Of the 18 artists, one was a stand out sensation of the night.  A young lady by the name of Hannah Kim.  Hannah has been a mentee of Chairman extraordinaire, Ben Olson.  Ben has been mentoring Hannah for over 2 years and has known since the beginning, she was very special with amazing talent.  Ben surprised Hannah at the event by donating ALL Super Hero wall silent auction profits directly to Hannah's college tuition. "There are moments as an artist and mentor when you get the opportunity to witness pure inspirational talent. Hannah Kim is a brilliant young artist and has just been accepted into 4 of the top art schools in the nation. She is a naturally gifted creative and when she makes it big (and she will) I can say I knew her when!" Ben Olson

On visual candy night: "It was such an incredible opportunity to display my artwork at Visual Candy Night among so many experienced and inspiring artists. I was so excited to be there, and the donation I received that night absolutely blew me away. It was a total surprise to me. Mr. Olson has been so generous and I can't thank him enough for all that he has given me through the Backyard Experience and his mentorship. But even more than the amount of money I received, I was so touched by what that donation signified; it showed that he truly believes in me, my art, and my plans for the future. Every time I have discussed my dreams for my art with Mr. Olson, he has never viewed it as something that may possibly happen, but as something that will happen. His belief in me and the support that was displayed that night means so much to me. I truly cannot express all of it in words. I am so honored to be the first graduate from The Backyard Experience's mentorship program!!" Hannah Kim

About Hannah Kim

Hannah Kim is an 18-year-old aspiring artist from the suburbs of Chicago. She is mostly self-taught, but has taken a few art classes over the years. She loves to paint in gouache, use colored pencils, and most of all draw with a pencil in her sketchbook. She also has a passion for filmmaking and storytelling. Her life-long love of art and movies has influenced her decision to attend art school for college and study illustration. She is ecstatic to be studying what she loves for the next four years. Her hope is to someday work in the animation or live-action film industry as a concept artist. She believes that art can change the world and hopes to one day influence the culture positively through her works. Her goal in every piece of art is to make something beautiful that inspires and touches others.

She has been mentored by Ben Olson for two years and has benefited greatly from his guidance and the investment of The Backyard EXPERIENCE. She is grateful beyond words for everything that he and the organization have poured into her. She will always be proud to be known as his student!

About Chuck Jones Center for Creativity Chicagoland

The Chuck Jones Center for Creativity, is a 501(c)3 public charity based in Orange County, CA. Chuck Jones was a creative genius who gave life to Road Runner, Wile E. Coyote and Bugs Bunny along with over 300 animated films.  The Center, which Jones founded in 1999, is an organization that fosters and teaches creative thinking—the thinking behind problem solving. https://www.facebook.com/chuckjoneschicago/

It's a fact that "creativity" is like a muscle in your brain that needs exercise in order to get and stay healthy. The stronger that muscle is, the better it works in engaging tasks and solving problems. The Center serves as a gymnasium for the creative brain.

The Center works with disadvantaged youth, school systems without arts programs, people on the autism spectrum, the elderly (many of whom suffer from early onset dementia), and other groups, including corporate clients, who see the value of pumping up creativity in their ranks. For more information on the workshops call 630-283-3621.
