ACEC/MA announces Simpson Bumpertz & Heger, Inc. as 2018 winner of Grand Conceptor Award
Simpson Gumpertz & Heger recognized for the work on BahaI Temple of South America in Santiago Chile
The 2018 Engineering Excellence Awards were announced at the recent ACEC/MA Engineering Excellence and Awards Gala with emcees Beth J. Larkin, PE, MBTA Assistant General Manager for Capital Delivery and Housamm ("Sam") H. Sleiman, PE, CCM, MassPort Director of Capital Programs & Environmental Affairs.
Simpson Gumpertz & Heger, Inc., with offices in Boston, was retained by Hariri Pontarini Architects to build the BaháʹÍ Temple of South America high in the foothills of the Andes Mountains outside of Santiago, Chile. Features of the sanctuary of light and inspiration include a nine-leaf motif to celebrate the faith's spiritual beliefs and evoke oneness with nature. Despite significant challenges, including a high-seismic zone, untested materials in thin structural applications and high-durability and reliability requirements, the Simpson Gumpertz & Heger team successfully brought the architect's vision to life; as such global visitors will gather, pray and celebrate at the BaháʹÍ Temple for many years to come.
"The awards honor this year's most outstanding engineering accomplishments in Massachusetts,"
