Klorane Botanical Foundation + KidsGardening Announce Citizens of the World Charter School Winner of Budding Botanist GrantCelebratory Award Event To Take Place Wednesday, May 23, 2018
By: Klorane One of six winning schools across the country, Citizens of the World Charter School has been awarded a Budding Botanist Grant package valued at $3000 in cash and supplies to provide resources for creating important learning gardens with their students. The school was selected for its commitment to teaching environmental sustainability and biodiversity, and will utilize the Budding Botanist Grant to support their new Native Pollinator Garden, which will serve as an education tool for their students and a model for the community. They also plan to build a Monarch Waystation and worm compost stations to teach students the value of adopting sustainable practices. According to Sara Murphy, Citizens of the World Charter School Special Education Process Coordinator, "We emphasize the importance of respecting the body and its connection to the environment. This means guiding students to consider not only what they eat, but also what they do, and how they treat others and the world around them." On Wednesday, May 23, the Klorane Botanical Foundation and KidsGardening will help host an award ceremony and garden project at the school in celebration of receiving the Budding Botanist Grant, and to raise awareness around the impact of teaching children to protect nature through growing, caring for and living with plants.
