WASHINGTON - May 15, 2018 - PRLog -- Anyé Young is a 16-year-old rising senior attending high school in the Washington, D.C. metro area. She is a Dominican-American who steps up to serve her community as a volunteer with RebuildDominica.org -- a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit relief organization. Young also serves as a Youth Coordinator at MyFairyGodParents.org.

In the spirit of service, she prepares to share her new book: "Teen Guide to Living With Incarcerated Parents" (#TGLWIP) which will be released on Father's Day -- June 17th 2018. The book is a self-help book for teenagers with incarcerated parents. However, younger children and even parents can benefit from #TGLWIP as the guide book provides a look into what goes on in the mind of a child who is dealing with the shame and anger of having a parent in prison.

#TGLWIP has received praise from Young's champions. This includes Dr. Baz Dreisinger --- Founding Academic Director of John Jay University's Prison-to-College Pipeline. Dr. Dreisinger is also the Best-Selling author of the book, Incarceration Nations: A Journey to Justice in Prisons Around the World (2016). Additional praise was offered for #TGLWIP by Glenn E. Martin --- Founder and President of JustLeadershipUSA.

Praise for #TGLWIP from Anyé's Champions

"This indispensable work is powerful yet concise, informed by years of experience grappling with the brokenness produced by our criminal justice system's commitment to mass incarceration. It is evidence that love and healing can triumph over hate and harm, if one has the commitment to put in the work."

--Baz Dreisinger, Ph.D., Founding Academic Director, Prison-to-College Pipeline
Author, Incarceration Nations: A Journey to Justice in Prisons Around the World (2016)

"Young's work is a testament to both the healing power and deep reservoir of wisdom those who endure the worst of our country's criminal justice system have to offer. The frustrating wonder of this guide--forged from devastation widely understood as needless and counterproductive--is that it' unquestioned value is only matched by the absurd reality that it had to written at all."

--Glenn E. Martin, Founder and President, JustLeadershipUSA

Young's father is currently incarcerated in North Carolina where he is serving a 12 year sentence. He has been incarcerated since Young was 10 years old. Writing this book was a form of therapy that has helped both Young and her mother, LaDàna Drigo, understand the turmoil children endure while coping with life as a child of someone who is incarcerated. It is a blessing to other children coping with similar circumstances. And, it also encourages parents, like Young's mother, to find positive ways for their teens to express themselves instead of bottling their emotions.

Young is preparing for her book tour which will launch this summer. She has pledged support of the USDreamAcademy.org -- a nonprofit founded by Wintley Phipps to empower children most at risk of incarceration by offering academic, social, and values enrichment. She has already committed to donate a copy of her book for each of their 7 learning centers in Dream City locations throughout the U.S. This includes a donation for the launch of an upcoming learning center slated to open in Chicago, IL.
