United Premier Soccer League Announces Texas' FC Imperial as New Central Conference Expansion Team
Founded in 2010, Sugar Land (Tex.)-Based Pro Development Team Joins UPSL
Based in Sugar Land (Tex.), FC Imperial begins UPSL in the Texas Conference and will play its home games at FBCA Sports Complex (1250 7th St. Sugar Land, TX 77478) in compliance with UPSL's Minimum Standards.
United Premier Soccer League Commissioner Yan Skwara said, "There's a lot of room for quality soccer in Texas, and we're pleased to welcome FC Imperial to the UPSL. Owners Jason Westfahl and Herald Zurita continue to build upon their plan for professional development in their community based upon the UPSL's Pro/Rel Model of merit-based promotion. We wish FC Imperial the best of success."
Co-Owners Jason Westfahl and Herald Zurita have partnered with Cedar Stars Academy-Houston and both President Armando Tarazona and Director of Coaching Everick Stoelwinder to advance FC Imperial's professional development plans.
Cedar Star Academy-Houston President Armando Tarazona said, "This partnership builds a foundation for a higher level of play for Cedar Stars Academy-Houston players."
Imperial FC Co-Owner Herald Zurita said, "Not every player is going to go to college. Some take a year off, some don't go that route at all so we're offering an avenue to continue to develop their soccer opportunities so that one day they get seen by a bigger club. The UPSL offers our club the opportunity to challenge our players. The league's Pro/Rel Model is critical to establishing organization at the national level. Also, joining the UPSL gives our players the opportunity to participate in qualifying for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup and that's huge. The opportunity for players and teams to play against huge clubs is incredibly motivating."
A native of Los Angeles, Zurita, 43, had a decorated playing career that included time as a professional in both North and South America. He will serve as the team's Head Coach.
A native of Texas, Westfahl will serve as the team's General Manager. Westfahl, 45, has more than 10 years of experience as a soccer coach.
Stoelwinder will be a player on the team and an assistant coach. A native of The Netherlands, Stoelwinder holds a UEFA 'B' Pro Coaching License.
The team soon will announce its upcoming game schedule.
