University of Texas Health School of Dentistry Chooses OralID for Oral Cancer Screening

HOUSTON - May 10, 2018 - PRLog -- With the rise in oral cancer rates, the University of Texas Health School of Dentistry committed to incorporating advanced oral cancer screening options into the curriculum. In order to improve the rate of early diagnosis, the use of fluorescence imaging is advantageous because it improves the visualization of oral mucosal tissue abnormalities since premalignant may not be readily apparent with the naked eye. UTHealth School of Dentistry evaluated all fluorescence devices commercially available and the OralID was selected to clinically educate 3^rd and 4^th year dental students to visualize mucosal areas within the entire mouth.

According to Warner et al., the OralID was a good choice for the UTHealth School of Dentistry for several reasons. The enclosed filtered glasses allow simultaneous examination by the student and faculty member. The OralID is easily disinfected by using CaviWipes™ or an equivalent to clean the entire device after each use. Since disposable barrier sleeves are not required, there are not any added costs per use.¹
