RN and CEO Clayton Edges Closer to Recruiting 100,000 Future Nurses
Mona Clayton RN to entice future nurses from Watts community to walk the red carpet
By: The Nurses Pub
The event will take place where Ms. Clayton called home during most of her formative years in Watts, Calif, a place known to be riddled with gang members, drive by shootings and poverty. However, Ms. Clayton often feels that her surroundings are what made her become more driven and want to provide a decent lifestyle for her and her daughter.
"Many people think that if you are from the 'hood' that there is no hope and many are stereotyped;
Clayton was a bedside nurse for over 20 years, but she felt limited in her role creatively and wanted to represent the profession on a global level. Perhaps it was her zeal for journalism, her curiosity for business or her attraction to the computer keyboard that helped her pen her first published book, "From Student to Nurse—Surviving the Journey" that put the bedside nurse into action. But according to Mona, it was her need to give back to future nurses—in particular single mothers, men and individuals who felt that they could not survive the nursing journey.
In conjunction with the Los Angeles Housing Authority, Work Source/Watts-
"I believe that a career in nursing is not for everyone, but maybe someone attending may want to become a doctor, anesthesiologist or any other health care profession. I hope to, along with a distinguished panel of registered nurses, ignite the interest and kickstart a mindset of faith, belief, empowerment and hope."
The seminar will include a panel of seasoned nursing professionals from various aspects of nursing such as labor & delivery, emergency, oncology and case management to name a few.
Our guest speaker, Taquita Love, a pediatric oncology nurse is also a comedian. The event is FREE for students, residents of the housing authority and Worksource interns. Lunch will be served for registered guest.
