God's Gifts and Tender Mercies in the Beautiful Words of Artist Michael Podesta

Lunch and Lecture with Famous Calligrapher at St. Joseph Center

MILWAUKEE - May 1, 2018 - PRLog -- Judging by the popularity of wall décor with motivational and inspirational messages, one can infer that the fine art of lettering is not lost. Among fine art collectors and the faithful, calligraphy artist Michael Podesta is beloved and renowned. Through his art, Michael shares with the world the devotional prayers and scripture passages that touch his heart. On Saturday, June 2, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m., Michael will present a workshop titled "Beautiful Words" in St. Joseph Center, the south side campus of the School Sisters of St. Francis (27th St. and Greenfield Ave., Milwaukee).

This master calligrapher from Virginia will discuss his artistic process, and reflect on his own as well as others' responses to the Bible, devotionals, and the words of famous writers. He will also be discussing his life and faith, and God's presence through trials and tribulations. Michael's art is both intriguing and relatable, as there are stories behind them that all can connect to, and the variety represents both traditional and modern influences.

Michael received his training from the San Francisco Art Institute and California's Mendocino Art Center. He also taught printmaking and has exhibited his secular and religious work throughout the country since the mid-1970s. He lives on the East Coast, where he divides his time between two sites: in Suffolk, Virginia, where his shop is located, and in North Carolina. He maintains an openness of spirit to kindle his imagination. "I never want to limit my anticipation of what our surprising Creator might use for His inspiration," Michael said.

"Family, work, friendship, the seasons, music, memory:  These are the experiences in which I have seen the line that separates the 'spiritual' from the 'secular' blur and then completely disappear. These are the experiences in which I have found God's good gifts and tender mercies sufficient to the needs of everyday life."

Lunch will be served during the presentation and is included in the $25 fee. All registrations must be received by Monday, May 28.
