University of Alabama at Birmingham chooses Mondo surface for new outdoor track and field facility
NCAA Division I university to build Olympic-class facility with fast track for breaking records
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - May 1, 2018 - PRLog -- The University of Alabama at Birmingham has chosen Mondo's Super X 720 as the track for its new outdoor track and field facility.
According to UAB Director of Athletics Mark Ingram, the track's quality and speed are among the reasons the NCAA Division I university chose Mondo's Super X 720 track for its new facility. "We don't just want a new track; we want to have an Olympic-quality facility with the fastest track in the state of Alabama so athletes can set records, whether at the collegiate, high school or junior high level."
Ingram noted that this will be the first time in the track and field program's 33 years that it will have a world-class track for practice and competition. The new venue will be the home for UAB's women's track and field team, and it will enable UAB to host intercollegiate meets, as well as conference and high school events. The university also plans to make it available for use by UAB students, staff and faculty and Birmingham residents.
Made by Mondo, the global leader in the track and field, and indoor sport flooring markets, Super X 720 is engineered for speed and comfort. It provides the optimal blend of energy return, comfort, safety and durability for everything from daily training to the toughest competitions. Strong vulcanized rubber provides optimum traction while a unique textured bottom layer generates a cushion of air for extreme comfort and allows swifter transitions as the foot rolls from the fifth to the first metatarsus.
Green and sustainable, Super X 720 is:
· GREENGUARD Gold certified;
· Granular-free for healthy waterways;
· Heavy metal-free and will not leach into the environment;
· Bacterial, microbacterial and fungal resistant; and
· 100 percent recyclable.
The new track at UAB will have eight lanes, with dual straights and throwing space for discus, javelin and shot put on the infield. A hammer cage and jump areas will be located just outside the oval track.
Construction is expected to begin early this month. Medallion Athletics Products, Inc., a general contractor based in Mooresville, N.C., that sells and installs Mondo products, will install the track.
