Unity of Delray Beach Church, 101 NW 22nd St. at Swinton Ave. is pleased to welcome all to its brand new outdoor labyrinth as its inaugural event is held May 5 in sync with World Labyrinth Day. It was constructed by Eagle Scout Connor Lee under the direction of Rev. Linda Hurley, a trained labyrinth facilitator and the church's prayer ministry director. Members of surrounding communities of all ages and faiths, as well as out-of-town visitors, are invited to pause for an hour or so Saturday, May 5, arriving at 12:30 p.m., to reflect on the good in our world. There is no admission fee; free will love offerings are welcome. The labyrinth is an ancient pattern found in many cultures around the world. Labyrinth designs were found on pottery, tablets and tiles that date as far back as 5000 years. Indoor and outdoor labyrinths, temporary and permanent and even portable, can be found in medical centers, parks, churches, schools, prisons, memorial parks, spas, cathedrals and retreat centers as well as in people's backyards. The labyrinth is round and has only one path that leads from the outer edge in a circuitous way to the center. There are no tricks to it and no dead ends. Unlike a maze where you lose your way, the labyrinth is a spiritual tool that can help you find your way. The practice of walking a labyrinth is currently being used worldwide as a way to quiet the mind, recover a balance in life, and encourage meditation, insight, self-reflection, stress reduction, and to discover innovation and celebration. They are open to all people as a non-denominational, cross-cultural blueprint for well-being. Labyrinth walking integrates the body with the mind and the mind with the spirit. If you are unable to attend 'Walk as One at 1', other opportunities to participate include tracing with a finger labyrinth on paper, or Googling for info on a labyrinth app for your iPhone or iPad.
