Follow on Google News | 19th Annual Newport Beach Film Festival to Celebrate Chilean CinemaFestival will Spotlight the Chilean film 'The Desert Bride' followed by a Gala Celebration of Latin Film, Food and Culture.
Directed by Cecilia Atán and Valeria Pivato, The Desert Bride [La Novia del Desierto] follows Teresa (Paulina Garcia), a Chilean live-in maid with deep roots in Buenos Aires. When her employers sell their home, Teresa is forced to find other opportunities and travels across the country to San Juan. She loses her bag with all her belongings in the desert, but finds hope in a traveling salesman named El Gringo (Claudio Rissi) who helps her in more ways than one. "The Festival is exceptionally proud to showcase strong Chilean cinema" stated Gregg Schwenk, CEO of the Newport Beach Film Festival. "A hit at the 2017 Cannes Film Festival, 'The Desert Bride [La Novia del Desierto] is a must see film." The Chilean Spotlight film will screen at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2nd, 2018 at The Triangle (1870 Harbor Blvd, Costa Mesa, CA 92627) at Triangle Cinemas.The post-screening celebration will take place at 9:30 p.m. at Time Nightclub (1875 Newport Blvd. B245 Costa Mesa, CA 92627). The evening will feature culinary tastings by several of Orange County's top restaurants, multiple DJs, live entertainment, including a performance by Grupo Folklorico Chile America Sur De California, a special performance by the Grammy Award winning, Mariachi Divas, and a hosted bar by Tequila Herradura.
