HERSHEY, Pa. - April 19, 2018 - PRLog -- The World Turns to War, the latest book in the War Stories World War II Firsthand™ series from Monroe Publications, has won the Bronze Medal in the World History category of the 22nd annual Independent Publisher Book Awards, according to an announcement made on April 10. The work by author/historian Jay Wertz, with a foreword by noted World War II scholar Dr. Gerhard Weinberg, covers the period between the treaties ending World War I and the fall of France in June 1940. Using photos – some never before seen – custom maps, narrative passages and unique interviews with World War II combat veterans and eyewitnesses of the period, The World Turns to War engages readers with the chilling true events of the Rise of Adolf Hitler, the Invasion of Poland, the Winter War in Finland, Norway Campaign, Blitzkrieg in the West and the Dunkirk Evacuation.

The Independent Publisher Book Awards (IPPYs) is a production of the Jenkins Group, Inc., a Michigan-based publishing and marketing company that specializes in handling book marketing strategies and sales for independent publishers. The company also posts an online newsletter for publishers and authors, and hosts other book competitions.

Jim Barnes of the Jenkins Group, Inc., Awards Director of the IPPYs, states, "Since our inaugural contest to now, we've seen thousands of books, and the beautiful thing is – they keep getting better. Our entrants are consistently putting out truly moving, entertaining, powerful books that exemplify what indies are capable of."

The World Turns to War has also been designated a Finalist in Foreword Reviews' 2017 Indies Book Of The Year Awards in the War & Military category. Winners in this competition will be announced on June 15, 2018.

In addition to The World Turns to War, the War Stories World War II Firsthand™ series includes The Pacific – Volume One – Pearl Harbor to Guadalcanal, The Pacific – Volume Two – The Solomons to Saipan, D-Day – The Campaign Across France (an Independent Publishers Silver Medal winner in 2012) and Their Darkest Hour – Britain, Its Enemies and Allies, to be published in late 2018.

Author and TV journalist Tom Brokaw praised The Pacific – Volume One of the War Stories World War II Firsthand™ series as, "a stunning and evocative reminder of the personal heroism and epic battles over and on seas, island, and mainland, as told by those who were there. Magnificent."

Jay Wertz is the author of six other books -- The Native American Experience, The Civil War Experience 1861-1865, co-author of Smithsonian's Great Battles and Battlefields of the Civil War and the three previous volumes of the War Stories World War II Firsthand™ series.
