Pensacola Welcomes Addiction Treatment Specialist to Discuss the Opioid Epidemic

Addiction treatment specialist Marvin Seppala will be in Pensacola to discuss the national opioid epidemic.

PENSACOLA, Fla. - April 18, 2018 - PRLog -- One of the most well-known professionals in the area of pharmacological addiction treatment, Dr. Marvin Seppala will be leading a seminar in Pensacola, Florida to address the opioid epidemic

Seppala has spent decades working with evidence-based addiction treatment practices and has predicted the opioid epidemic

He co-authored a book in 2004 in which he highlighted that opioid painkiller abuse was a 'dangerous practice' and stated that the use of habit-forming prescription opioids could likely 'reach epidemic proportions.'

Years later, Seppala launched a medical protocol for treating opioid use disorders called the Comprehensive Opioid Response with the Twelve Steps (COR-12) to improve opioid addiction treatment through evidence-based methods — such as behavioral therapy and motivational interviewing in combination with medication-assisted treatment principles and 12-step programs.

Seppala is also an adjunct professor at the Hazel Graduate School of Addiction Studies and the chief medical officer at the Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation — an addiction treatment and advocacy organization in Minnesota that has offered education, research and clinical substance use disorder care to different communities for almost 70 years.

On top of being a leading voice in the field, Seppala has been a board member of the American Society of Addiction Medicine for several years.

The seminar he will lead will be held in Pensacola, on May 24. The event is free and open to the public but registration is encouraged.
