Winner of the Edgar Award for Best Mystery Play of 2012

April 19-29

NEW YORK, NY — It's Elementary! The Theatre Fellowship of Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church is presenting Ken Ludwig's farcical mystery-comedy "The Game's Afoot," winner of the 2012 Edgar Award for Best Mystery Play of 2012. The production, directed by Doug Paulson and produced by Lucy Cabrera, opens on Friday, April 20 (after a April 19  preview) at 7 pm in the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church's Jones Auditorium, 7 W. 55th St., third floor, New York, NY. Performances run through Sunday, April 29.

Described by Broadway World as "murderously funny," The Game's Afoot  is set during Christmas 1936 at the Connecticut estate of the real-life William Gillette, an actor-playwright famous for playing Sherlock Holmes on stage in a play on which he collaborated with Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. When his theatrical company arrives for the holidays with a notorious critic in tow, the stage is set for murder, and Gillette is only too happy to put on his Holmes cap to solve the case. Director Paulson, who returns after last year's successful FAPC production of "Enchanted April," says playwright Ludwig "has crafted a mystery that begs to be solved by the audience." Paulson serves on the faculty of Playwrights Horizons Theater School at NYU and Vassar's Powerhouse Apprentice Program, and previously starred in FAPC's 2005 production of Arsenic and Old Lace. He is joined by Victoria McNaughton as assistant director/dramaturg. The cast includes Brad Lewis, Janet Luhrs, Theodore Newton, Bobbi Owens, Michael Protacio, Allison Threadgold, Joscelyne Wilmouth and Patricia Yeazell.
