ARLINGTON, Va. - April 17, 2018 - PRLog -- BirdsCaribbean Executive Director, Lisa Sorenson, today announced that "Wildside Nature Tours is becoming an Imperial Parrot Corporate Sponsor.  More than $20,000 of this sponsorship will go towards post hurricane Irma and Maria restoration work,  including efforts to save Dominca's Imperial Parrots."

Wildside Nature Tours President, Kevin Loughlin, stated "we strongly believe that the tourism sector must support conservation and incentivize community engagement in conservation so we are proud to make this commitment….as we enter our 25th year anniversary we want to make this special effort to protect and preserve the places we have been bringing people to see and appreciate all this time."

Ms. Sorenson noted that "BirdsCaribbean is entering its 30th year anniversary and we are looking for opportunities to collaborate with companies that not only support our work but also sustainably invest in local Caribbean communities…. Wildside Nature Tours is a perfect partner in these efforts and we thank them for their dedication and support." In late 2017 Wildside Nature Tours was a key supporter of BirdsCaribbean's hurricane restoration work and on-going island education programs.

BirdsCaribbean is the largest regional organization dedicated to the conservation of wild birds and their habitats in the insular Caribbean. A 501(c)3 membership organization with over 1,200 members and supporters, BirdsCaribbean is the Caribbean's primary forum to promote on-the-ground conservation action. BirdsCaribbean has partners and members on every island, and more than 100,000 local people participate in our programs each year.

Through their bird-watching, photography and nature trips, Wildside Nature Tours has been bringing people to learn, appreciate and support conservation in the Caribbean for more than a decade.  In the next 12 months alone Wildside nature Tours will conduct eight Caribbean trips making donations to support BirdsCaribbean's vital programs throughout the Caribbean.

Ms. Sorenson closed by stating that "BirdsCaribbean and the local NGOs we work with have the support of local communities but we must sustain these communities through environmentally friendly economic opportunities."  Bird and eco-tourism that puts the majority of the economic benefit back into the communities are key components of this strategy. "Working together we can invest in education and capacity building for our local partners to study, manage and conserve birds. This will create an awareness and a civil society that values nature thus ensuring that the Caribbean's unique birds and habitats can be protected long into the future."

Now in its third decade, BirdsCaribbean is a vibrant international network committed to conserving Caribbean birds and their habitats by raising awareness, promoting sound science, and empowering local partners to build a region where people appreciate, conserve and benefit from thriving bird populations and ecosystems.
