Voices For Solidarity Concert Raises Scholarship Money For Dreamers

ARLINGTON, Va. - April 16, 2018 - PRLog -- The Dream Project-VA, an organization with the mission to empower students whose immigration status creates barriers to education, will be holding the 5^th annual benefit concert, Voices for Solidarity, on May 4^th, 2018 a 6:15 PM in the Unitarian Universalist Church of Arlington (4444 Arlington Blvd, Arlington, VA, 22204). This year, considering continued challenges to many in our society, the annual concert seeks to unite immigrants and all communities in solidarity. While Dream Project students face unique challenges in these difficult times, other members of our society are also struggling for their rights and dignity. As a celebration of diversity and solidarity, this year's concert will feature local musical and theatrical groups from various backgrounds. These include Elena & Los Fulanos performing Folk Americana and Latin Rock, Sherlee Skai performing Haitian Folk, Paso Nuevo Youth Group with a scene from the original play "Through my eyes", Marcelo & His Charango with traditional Andean music, and Hanan Seid reciting original slam poetry. The concert will also feature the stories of Dreamers, casting a light both on the challenges immigrants face, but also on their rich and diverse experiences.

"Every year, this concert presents a unique opportunity not only to get to know talented local artists through live performances," said Lizzette Arias, the Director of the Dream Project. "But also, to get together with diverse communities and support ourselves while celebrating art and music."
