"Admiring An American War Hero"
By: Lawrence Executive Alliance of Professionals LLC
The largest of its kind, America's Promise Alliance, led alongside Powell's wife, Alma J. Powell, current board chair, brings together nonprofits, businesses, communities, educators and ordinary citizens in an effort to make the promise of America a reality for all young people. Based upon five promises – caring adults, safe places, opportunities to serve, effective education and a healthy start – The Alliance recognizes that the overcoming challenges facing today's youth requires a collaborative approach.
The Powells have been dedicated to the organization through their time, energy, creativity, financial resources and leadership for the past decade. But the retired general's commitment to the country's wellbeing has been a lifelong endeavor. His service began with two tours in Vietnam, after which he earned positions at the Pentagon and the Department of Defense. Among other stints, he served as national security adviser to President Ronald Reagan and later, chairman of the joint chief of staff, the youngest and first African-American to hold the position, according to CNN. He retired as a four-star general with two Purple Hearts and countless medals and military recognitions.
"General Powell's commitment to the armed forces has always been fuel for my desire to serve our country in any way possible," Dr. Lawrence said. "I have looked up to him since the inception of my career and his selfless example of military service has made him a valued role model, which has been crucial to my own success."
Dr. Lawrence's organization, LEAP, LLC, shares a similar commitment to that of America's Promise – to bring forth excellence in providing healthcare for active duty, veteran and civilian patients on a global scale, while its partner nonprofit, LEAP Foundation DC, provides educational and training opportunities to meet the aspirations of the underserved citizens of the District of Columbia, specifically the area's disadvantaged youth.
"Our commitment to Corporate Citizenry means that we are dedicated to making changes that have a positive global impact of the overall wellbeing of humanity," Dr. Lawrence said. "We recognize the importance of collaborating with other organizations that share a similar mission. America's Promise Alliance has been an incredible resource, which has inspired and encouraged thousands to come together in support of its mission: to create a brighter future for today's generation of youth. We are proud to work alongside this incredible network of exceptional leaders."
ABOUT LAWRENCE EXECUTIVE ALLIANCE OF PROFESSIONALS, LLC
Driven by a mentality of servant leadership, Lawrence Executive Alliance of Professionals (LEAP), LLC, has been providing superior quality healthcare for active duty, veteran and civilian patients since 2007. Dr. Clayton Lawrence, a decorated and respected veteran of the United States Army, saw the need for a company that would operate with a new philosophy to bring forth excellence in the healthcare industry. Staffing medical facilities across the country with physicians, health educators, medical examiners and more, LEAP has been recognized with several awards of excellence and is certified by the Small Business Administration. Winning the Washington Business Journal Minority Business Leader Award for 2014 was just the beginning of much-deserved recognition for positive changes in the District of Columbia and across the nation. Dr. Lawrence and LEAP, LLC, were selected as the 2015 Washington, D.C., Chamber of Commerce's Small Business Person of the Year. In 2016, Dr. Lawrence was honored when he was entered into The Congressional Record for his work in business and civic leadership throughout the greater Washington, D.C., region and abroad. Later that year, he received a White House Letter of Commendation from President Barack Obama for his work with LEAP, LLC. LEAP, LLC's nonprofit partner organization, LEAP Foundation DC, has been building bridges between hope and achievement in the District of Columbia and the surrounding communities since 2009. The group works to address the unmet social and health needs of the area's people and, among other accolades, was recognized in 2014 with the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Nonprofit Award.
