WEST PALM BEACH, FL (April 4, 2018) L.A. Theatre Works has announced the casting of stage, film and television stars Karen Malina White and Gilbert Glenn Brown for their upcoming tour of the Olivier Award-winning hit play, The Mountaintop. As the nation honors the 50th anniversary of his passing, the fictional tale of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s last night alive comes to the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts as a part of the Center's P.E.A.K. Series April 20 – 21, 2018.

Karen Malina White has received two NAACP Image Awards as well as the LA Drama Critics Circle Award and the LA Ovation Award. She has been seen on screen in Lean On Me with Morgan Freeman and numerous independent films such as The Ties That Bind and Where Do We Go From Here.  Her television credits include The Cosby Show, How To Get Away With Murder, Living Single, Animal Kingdom and VEEP among many others.

Gilbert Glenn Brown is an accomplished stage actor with credits ranging from the Goodman Theatre to True Colors Theatre Company to the National Black Theatre Festival. Television appearances include Stranger Things, Valor, CSI Miami, Cold Case, The Shield and others. He has been seen on film in Best of Enemies, Dreamgirls, Drumline 2, and Raising the Heights.

On April 4, 1968, Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated outside room 306 of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis. What happened inside that room the night before remains a mystery. Playwright Katori Hall surmises what may have transpired between the civil rights leader and a seemingly inconsequential hotel maid in her smash hit, The Mountaintop. Winner of the prestigious Olivier Award for Best New Play, The Mountaintop is rife with humor and political jabs, while giving us a glimpse at the human side of Martin Luther King, Jr. Hours after his famed final speech, punctuated by the immortal line, "I've been to the mountaintop," the celebrated Reverend reveals his hopes, regrets and fears, creating a masterful bridge between mortality and immortality. The Mountaintop premiered in London in 2009 and subsequently ran on Broadway starring Angela Bassett and Samuel L. Jackson. This acclaimed play contains mature language.

This P.E.A.K. Series performance is made possible by a grant from the MLDauray Arts Initiative in honor of Leonard and Sophie Davis. The Mountaintop takes the Rinker Playhouse stage Friday, April 20 and Saturday, April 21 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $35 and may be purchased by visiting the official Kravis Center website at kravis.org; in person at the Kravis Center Box Office located at 701 Okeechobee Blvd. in West Palm Beach or by phone at 561-832-7469.
