OSWEGO, Ill. - April 9, 2018 - PRLog -- Is bathing suit season looming over your head? Do you feel like you've added some winter weight on and are ready to shed those lovely lady lumps? You are most definitely not the only one! It seems that more than ever we live in a very health conscious society. Where we all could benefit from fun, fit family activities. And if you aren't trying to go gluten free or taking the latest CrossFit PiYo Step Jam class, you are missing out. But for some of us it just as simple as to get moving!

Chances probably are your kids would also benefit from some get up and go time. What could be better than to spend some quality family time getting fit TOGETHER! After some quick thinking, a little research, and a discussion with my daughter on what counts as "cool" these days, I came up with this blog. So grab those sweat bands and start counting your steps as we countdown my Top 6 Fun Fit Activities for the Whole Family!

6. Exploring Your Town

Now yes this may sound boring. You've lived in the same town forever and you've been everywhere. Well not like this. Find something that your family is interested in. Like birds or artwork or even places I'd never go with my mother. And now you make a game out of it. Keeping score and recording all the places you see that fit into your category. And if you can find the most or have the most creative find you win. As a prize the winner gets to pick the category for your family's next exploration.

5. Frolfing

Being of college age in the early 2000's I have played a game or two of frolf. But for everyone outside that narrow age group; frolf is a game combination of Frisbee and golf. You have either 9 or 18 holes just like in golf. Except your holes are not in the ground, but are baskets that you have to throw your disc into. There are parks in every state to play Frisbee golf at that have actual courses with built in holes. Best part is they are almost always free! The rules are the same as club golf but instead of swinging a club you are throwing your Frisbee, or disc, and playing from where your throw lies.

4. Kickball

The most underrated schoolyard game of all time! This beloved gym class classic has now become fit fad to many 20 and 30 somethings. I have even heard of adult kickball leagues. Whether your family is small or large, playing kickball with them will be quite the experience. We started doing family games in our backyard last summer. It has now grown to 4 families in our neighborhood that rotate playing each other every Sunday afternoon during the summer. It's easy enough that the younger kids can go up to bat and the older folks have no problems jogging out the bases. We even let our kids win once in a while (wink, wink) ;-).

3. Bowling

This family fun activity is perfect on any rainy summer day. This is something that everyone in your family can do (with little adjustments) easily. It challenges your hand eye coordination and upper body strength. It may not cause you to sweat profusely, but it will get your blood pumping. Something that we should take into consideration is, "a body in motion, will stay in motion." Not only will you be motivated to keep moving all day but it's a great chance to have the big kids help teach the younger ones how to play. Your kids will be skill building and not even realize it. Lucky for us, hundreds of alleys across the country participate in the summer long Kids Bowl Free program, which allows children to play two games a day on the house. 2. Throw a Family Olympics Event

This is the perfect opportunity to see what you're made of in the Family Olympics. Think up fun, challenging, wacky, and sometimes wet events. Use your backyard or neighborhood park and set up multiple events such as egg in spoon races, water balloon corn hole, tug of war, dizzy relay races, ect. Make sure you have medals for bronze, silver, and gold in every event. Give everybody the opportunity to think up an event and to be responsible for the medals. Have older kids? Motivate participation by offering rewards for winning like borrow dad's car for the evening or have 3 of your friends spend the night. If your family is anything like mine, they will love the fierce and funny competition.

1. Nerf Fights

Who doesn't have some pent up aggression toward their family? A family Nerf fight is a wonderful way to get out some of that angst and get some exercise at the same time. This can be done anywhere really since Nerf darts are Styrofoam and can't do too much damage. But I'd like to recommend a nice outdoor open area. If you feel like your family is in the more advanced realm when it comes to Nerf wars, find a wooded area or a place with obstacles and places to hide. It will add a whole new element to the game. Capture the flag with Nerf guns is actually one of my families' favorites. Nothing says love like a barrage of Nerf darts to the chest!
