About the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the world's largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancer. The LLS mission is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. LLS funds lifesaving blood cancer research around the world and provides free information and support services.
Each year, LLS organizes the Man & Woman of the Year campaign: a ten-week philanthropic competition to support blood cancer research among a group of motivated and dedicated individuals in communities across the United States. Candidates form powerful fundraising teams and compete in honor of two local children who are blood cancer survivors. These children are symbols of hope for continued research to find a cure for all blood cancers. The man and woman who have raised the most funds during the campaign are awarded the title of Man or Woman of the Year in their community. The man and woman who have raised the most across the entire US will be recognized as the national Man and Woman of the Year. The Silicon Valley & Monterey Bay Area chapter serves residents who have been touched by one of the blood cancers.
