Drug and Alcohol Treatment in Baltimore Increased with New Structure

Baltimore will soon open a new center for people who need short-term drug and alcohol treatment.

BALTIMORE - April 5, 2018 - PRLog -- Baltimore is opening up a new center for patients who need short-term drug and alcohol treatment. There will be basic services such as first aid and opioid withdrawal management offered at the treatment center and they will also refer patients to a long-term treatment center.

Baltimore has been striving to find a better way to help people who need drug and alcohol treatment. The Baltimore police department have begun placing people into drug treatment instead of jailing them by usingthe Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion Program (LEAD).

LEAD was enacted a year ago and it gives Baltimore police officers to chance to make a call to case managers with Baltimore Crisis Response Inc --- a nonprofit group that helps those struggling with drug abuse.

Those case managers often times work with patients and place them with drug and alcohol treatment programs as well as mental health services.

Baltimore has a few drug and alcohol treatment centers but this will be the first place to have a 24/7 emergency services dedicated to those who overdose.

The building will be called the Stabilization Center and it will be $6.2 million to build. It will be a substance abuse treatment center where patients are expected to arrive and leave within a day.

The financing of this center was secured by several providers and the Maryland Health Department doled out $2 million preserved from the 21st Century Cures Act.
