HOPEWELL, N.J. - April 5, 2018 - PRLog -- On March 29, 2018, the American Distilling Institute awarded the Farm Distillery of The Year award to Hopewell, New Jersey-based Sourland Mountain Spirits distillery. The ADI is a national association and guild with over 800 craft distillery members nationwide, founded 15 years ago and still run by Bill Owens. The award was presented to Souland Mountain Spirits' founder, Ray Disch, together with 3 other medals for their New Jersey small batch spirits: Silver for their silver rum, and a Bronze each for their vodka and barrel-aged gin.

Sourland Mountain Spirits, established in 2015, is New Jersey's First Farm Distillery Since Prohibition. It resides on Double Brook Farm, behind the authentic farm-to-table restaurant, Brick Farm Tavern. Sourland Mountain Spirits' dedication to the farm-to-flask movement is evident in their sourcing and sustainability efforts for all of their spirits. They use local grains, such as corn and rye, from Zeng Family Farm in Ringoes, NJ, a few miles up the road from the distillery. Next week they will be purchasing 750 gallons of apple cider from Terhune Orchards, an orchard just a few miles from the distillery, to make apple brandy and apple jack.

In addition to being on a farm, Sourland Mountain Spirit's prime location allows them to draw from an aquifer at the base of the Sourland Mountain range. So the spirits are made using pure water filtered through micro-fractures in the geological formations of the mountains, protected by the largest contiguous forest in central New Jersey.

"All of us here at Sourland Mountain Spirits are dedicated to creating the highest quality craft and sustainable spirits we can," said Ray Disch, Sourland Mountain Spirits founder. And the payoff for all of this effort is evident in the quality spirits they distill, as the award-winning spirits have taken home three silver and five bronze medals over the last two years. Last year at the ADI awards, Sourland Mountain Spirits took home a silver medal for their botanical gin, and a bronze medal for their vodka. The spirits are available for purchase statewide at liquor stores and are often featured in craft cocktails at bars and restaurants throughout New Jersey. A full list of restaurants, bars, and liquor stores carrying and serving Sourland Mountain Spirits can be found on their website.
