WooBamboo! Takes Sail - A collaborative effort to help combat tooth decay in children
Pirates, Pandas and Teeth! An Interactive Book Sailing Through the Seven Cs
As childhood obesity climbs, Lisa Soesbe and Dr. Mitchell Kershner embarked on their collaborative passions and wrote, Tooth Ahoy! as an introductory book to a series for children to engage in healthier habits. "We were watching children developing adult diseases such as Type 2 diabetes, early menstruation and hypertension. It became our mission to find a fun way to educate and engage them," states Dr. Kershner.
"With dental hygiene as the focus of this book, we wanted to work with a company who had the same philosophies in creating a healthy lifestyle for children," shares Lisa Soesbe. Enter WooBamboo!, "Innovate. Inspire. Change the world.", this multiple award winning SW Florida oral care product company has grown to become a global sensation, with their bamboo toothbrush even being presented in the latest Stella Artois super bowl commercial with Matt Damon and water.org. They continue being an inspirational company by helping to educate children.
"We built WooBamboo! on the idea that everyone can make a difference in this world. This is especially true for children, as the lessons and ideals instilled as youngsters become habits as adults. We need future generations learning that healthiness IS happiness - and this adorable book is a step towards that," shares co-founder Christopher Fous. Along with Pirate Pete and crew, early readers will learn that even pirates can improve their teeth and gums by eating well and having good dental habits. Tooth Ahoy! comes with recipes, an interactive science project and a treasure of kid-friendly activities. "We designed our toothbrushes and delicious natural toothpastes to help our children want to brush, and learn to love natural products," continues Fous. The founders love that even in a small way, they help spread some positivity, and teach young minds to develop healthy habits.
"We aren't a toothbrush company," explains Fous. "At WooBamboo!, we're in the inspiration business. It's our mission to inspire the world to make more eco-friendly choices. Oral care is simply our vehicle, chosen because it's so culturally universal and fiercely ritualistic. We know that many small steps lead to big change. We simply provide an easy step."
Over a billion plastic toothbrushes end up cluttering landfills and oceans every year - just from America alone. Pair that with the fact most household toothpastes literally have the warning "if swallowed contact poison control" written on them. The WooBamboo! line consists of toothbrushes for adults, kids, and pets, in soft, medium and super soft, as well as biodegradable dental floss and delicious natural toothpaste.
With well over a million plastic toothbrushes replaced with ones made from bamboo, WooBamboo's goal of changing the world is continuing as they grow. Their products, boasting an entire oral care line includes natural toothpaste and will eventually include a mouth rinse. All WooBamboo products are packaged in Earth-friendly materials. This includes plant-based plastic, post-consumer waste paper, natural bamboo and soy-based ink. The toothpaste is available in Vanilla Mint and Sweet Cinnamon for adults and Bubble Berry and Toasted Marshmallow for kids. They are naturally flavored and do not contain fluoride, while utilizing safe and natural ingredients. WooBamboo! is currently available in independent local shops as well as national chains including CVS, Target, Safeway, Albertsons and Kroger, now totaling 10,000+ locations world-wide.
"Our products serve as an inspirational reminder that a small step has been made towards a cleaner planet", explains WooBamboo! cofounder and CFO Tom Burt. "Working in collaboration with the writers of Tooth Ahoy, with a similar mission, brings this message closer to home. Our own children contribute to our brand and help remind us why we are doing what we are doing, and who we are doing it for. We'd love for the book to be adopted by schools, dental practices, and libraries. Educating kids on healthy habits is a very necessary step toward a brighter future and cleaner, healthier planet."
