State Set to Regulate Sober Living Facilities in Tucson

Arizona government officials plan on regulating existing and future sober living facilities in an effort to address the state's opioid crisis.

TUCSON, Ariz. - March 29, 2018 - PRLog -- In a bipartisan effort, Arizona lawmakers presented a bill that would regulate existing and future drug detox center sober living facilities.

The bill also proposed more regulations on prescription opioid pain relievers.

If passed as a law, the Opioid Epidemic Act would require sober living centers employees to complete drug tests and background checks, something which is not always done during employee screenings at current centers.

More sober living facilities will open in Tucson neighborhoods to help patients following drug rehab. Each location will follow current health and safety protocols.

The proposal would also affect physicians and pharmacists. Dosage restrictions on prescription opioids and a thorough cross reference of the customer's prescription history on a national database will be implemented.

Portions of funding will go toward training law officials to administer naloxone, which reverses overdoses caused by opioids. The drug has saved lives across the country.
