LED lighting provides swift payback on investment for Leicestershire factory

LEICESTER, U.K. - March 28, 2018 - PRLog -- LED lighting is ideal for manufacturing facilities – providing excellent light levels that support safer, more efficient working conditions. LED specialist Earlsmann recently worked with SP (Leicester) Ltd, a sheet metal specialist, to upgrade lighting at its 24,000 square foot premises. The new LED lighting is helping SP to save over 80% in ongoing lighting energy and maintenance costs, achieving payback in under 2.5 years.


Assessing current lighting to determine the right LED solution

SP was aware that its existing lighting provision was no longer sufficient to support safe and efficient working. Earlsmann visited the client's premises to assess the lighting throughout its manufacturing area. There were 40 high-bay fittings housing 400W SON lamps, and 22 twin six-foot batten fixings. Many were not working, while others had deteriorated badly - light levels fell way below CIBSE guidelines. There was also no emergency lighting provision and some of the existing wiring was hazardous; the site was urgently in need of a lighting upgrade.

Earlsmann designed new LED lighting tailored to SP's needs, using Tonbridge 100W LED fittings to bring light levels up to a 330-lux average – comfortably meeting the guidelines set out by CIBSE. New trunking was installed across the ceiling to facilitate installation, and an emergency lighting system was included to ensure the site now meets all health and safety requirements.

Since the LEDs were installed, SP has reported an 84% reduction in load – creating huge energy savings and reducing the company's carbon footprint by 25 tonnes a year. The lighting has created a brighter, safer, more pleasant environment for factory staff, and is virtually maintenance-free due to its longevity and reliability. Earlsmann worked closely with installer InterLED to design a solution that avoided costly remedial work, maximising the benefits of SP's investment – the new lighting will pay for itself in under 2.5 years.
