Despite increasing house prices in Florida, overall foreign buyer purchases of Florida residential property increased in 2017. Overall the U.S. real estate market is experiencing a surge in both resident and nonresident foreign investors. International buyers from many different countries are scooping up residential, commercial, and industrial properties.

In 2017 foreign buyer purchases of Florida residential properties increased to $24.2 billion ($19.4 billion in 2016). This accounted for 21% of Florida's residential dollar volume of sales (19% in 2016). Last year, those foreign buyers bought 61,300 residential properties in Florida.

Most of this is happening in Southern and Central Florida. "One of our objectives is to attract more foreign investments to the area", said Michael Turwitt. "The First Coast is still a hidden secret and most international buyers purchasing vacation homes or investment properties in Florida are looking southwards simply because they don't know the North East coastal region", he adds.

Landing foreign investment in real estate is viewed as critical for any local economy because such investors bringing in new revenue.
