On Thursday, April 5th the Dranoff 2 Piano Foundation will present internationally acclaimed piano duo Elizabeth and Marcel Bergmann in "Americas' Classical Classics for 2 Pianos" The Duo will perform classics of Leonard Bernstein, joining the worldwide celebration of the 100th anniversary of his work as a composer and conductor, Aaron Copland known as the Dean of American composers, Chick Corea, Dave Brubeck, Pat Metheny and Canadian classics by composer and arranger Marcel Bergmann. Moving South we'll enjoy the great classical and tango works of Argentine virtuoso Astor Piazzolla and Egberto Gismonti known as the fountain-source of Brazilian culture in classical music. "Americas' Classical Classics for 2 Pianos" will take place at 8PM April 5th, at the Coral Gables Congregational Church located at 3010 De Soto Boulevard in Coral Gables. "Americas' Classical Classics" celebrates new and contemporary classical composers with the world premiere of "An American Dream" by Jorge Mejia, Colombian/American composer. "Inspired by military cadences, the traditional call-and-response work song sung by military personnel while running or marching, An American Dream is a tribute to America, my America. 'Pop song' America, 'Latin' America, 'immigrant' America. In short, the piece is a small tribute to this great country and what it means to me." ~ Jorge Mejia, Composer About the artists The Bergmann Piano Duo have touched and inspired audiences with their uniquely eclectic programs for more than two decades. "Always adventurous," Their "electrifyingly rendered recitals" (The Vancouver Sun) draw from an extensive repertoire ranging from the baroque to the contemporary and incorporate numerous arrangements and original compositions by Marcel Bergmann who writes in a "uniquely original voice that straddles the best of the classical and jazz worlds"(The Miami Herald) Jorge Mejia is a Colombian-born American composer, singer-songwriter and music industry executive, who is President at Sony/ATV Music Publishing. A Steinway artist, Mejia studied at the New World School of the Arts, the New England Conservatory of Music, and the University of Miami. Jorge's newest album featuring Jorge's compositions for piano and orchestra will be released this coming Friday May 4th via Sony Music.
