UPSL's Colorado Conference Announces 'League One' as Third Tier
Colorado Conference Will Be First In The UPSL To Offer Three Pro Development Levels Of Integrated Play Featuring the UPSL's Promotion/Relegation Model
The UPSL is pleased to announce that effective this Spring 2018 season, the Colorado Conference will integrate the Longmont Soccer League in Longmont (Colo.) as part of its new UPSL League One third tier competition.
United Premier Soccer League commissioner Yan Skwara said, "This is a milestone announcement in that this is the first time in the UPSL's seven-year history that we have added a third tier to our existing structure. This is a process that we will continue to drive forward, but at the end of the day our goal continues to be to unite clubs from across America into an Open Play System where teams can be part of the global FIFA-mandated Promotion and Relegation standard already in place in soccer nations across the globe."
Over more than 10 years, Eugolio Ventura made first the Peruvian Soccer League a thriving soccer community. Ventura's league, now the named Longmont Soccer League, was the starting point for UPSL Championship Colorado Conference club Real Medina, which won the league's 2017 championship.
Colorado Conference Operations Manager Don Harmon said, "Originally operating as the PSL, Mr. Ventura created a tremendous league with Peruvian flavor. His league hosted Real Medina ran by the Castruita Family, the reigning 2017 league champions, and Real Medina played in the league for several years. The league also has men's and women's divisions, so this is an exciting agreement that has been reached and we're excited for the possibilities that the Pro/Rel Model will have for our league members and fans."
The new UPSL League One Colorado Conference will host many of the UPSL Pro Premier reserve teams. New clubs also are expected to join in the near future, with a number of others within the marketplace expressing interest.
The UPSL League One Colorado Conference will have its champions promoted, while the UPSL Championship Colorado Conference will have its bottom teams relegated.
The UPSL League One Colorado Conference champion also will receive a cash prize in addition to a promotion sponsorship from the Longmont Soccer League.
UPSL League One play is expected to begin in April.
The Colorado Conference currently has 10 UPSL Pro Premier teams and eight UPSL Championship teams.
