DENVER - March 14, 2018 - PRLog -- Local businessman Alex Valdez is bringing strong leadership to the 2018 election cycle in his campaign for Colorado's House District 5 (HD-5).

Valdez recently announced his concrete and ambitious plan that calls for
making renewable energy accessible to every Coloradan, regardless of their income or background, while creating quality jobs for Coloradans.

"My plan is to make solar and wind power more accessible to everyone in Colorado by expanding PACE (property assessed clean energy) and allowing everyone to choose solar regardless of income," explains Valdez.  "I believe it should be a person's right to produce their own energy and be given credit for what they produce. This is why I will work to adopt statewide net metering rules so every person in Colorado can choose to own the energy they need to fuel their lives, stop climate change and grow our economy.

"What sets me apart is that I am the only candidate in the race who has built a successful local business, a residential solar company," Valdez says. "I know first-hand the challenges Colorado businesses face and how to overcome them to create quality employment and build industry here in the state."

Valdez was born and raised in Aurora, Colo., and is a graduate of the University of Colorado Boulder. He built his solar company, EcoMark Solar, from a co-working space in HD-5's RINO neighborhood to one of the largest renewable energy companies in Colorado.

"I moved into HD-5 in 2010 to rebuild from the economic downturn," Valdez explains. "I was lucky to find the resources and the spirit to build a company that now employs more than 100 Coloradans. I believe that these resources should be accessible to everyone, no matter their race, sex, creed or sexual orientation."

Valdez followed his call to service at a young age. Inspired by his love for animals, he championed fundraising drives for local animal shelters.

Valdez was able to continue his legacy of service in the Democratic Party, which best reflects his progressive values. He has been a leader in Colorado HD-5,

serving as captain prior to declaring his candidacy. As a proud member of the LGBTQ community, Valdez values equality and inclusion.

"I believe in fighting for a system that works for everyone," Valdez explains. "I believe that what makes Colorado great is at risk and that HD-5's next representatives should continue to be a reflection of the ideas and desires of its constituents.

HD-5 includes a large part of central and northwest Denver and is a hub for startups and small business as well as a home for immigrants, young professionals and new families.
